Sixteen Google Street Views (Jon Rafman)

"The images in Sixteen Google Street Views depict solitary individuals in a variety of contemporary landscapes," Rafman says in his book. "Street View photography presents a very different perspective on the relation of the individual to his world than the art of previous historical periods. The romantics portrayed solitary figures in an encounter with the sublime in which man felt both insignificant within nature but also transcendent over it. The romantic encounter with the sublime, moreover, pointed towards the individual's inner powers and towards his freedom." (wired.co.uk - wired places)
